Anger

By katrina 2010-05-17 03:12:19
Anger, if not thwarted, will consume us all.The anger comes from our jobs, our families, bills, friends and other opposing forces. Everyone can account, at one time or another, for feeling hatred or betrayal from people they thought they could trust. It is for this reason that we lash out and do things we would not normally do. Some people are very docile and content with the lives they lead. However, certain unseen forces, which, to their knowledge, had nothing to do with them, can cause even the most gentle of us to become ravenous, like a fierce lioness hunting for her next meal. More important than how we feel anger, is why. What is it inside all of us as human beings that makes us angry? What sets us off? For some, it could be the smallest thing, something at which other people might laugh. However, that so-called "small thing" could have been the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. Perhaps a certain someone has been treating another certain someone so harshly for so long that they finally could not take it anymore. It is at that point that the anger engulfs and rage takes over. Stabbing words are said and material objects are thrown in some kind of effort to get our point across. It is some kind of primal instict within all humans. It tells us that if we feel we are not being heard, yell. If we are being ignored, make oneself known. If we have been wronged, lash out with fury. Perhaps that is how we have survived for so long. Maybe that is why most animals react the same way. Survival of the fittest becomes survival of the loudest or the one who breaks the most stuff. What we need to realize is that we are human beings. What separates us from other animals is not the fact that we walk on two legs, but that we can reason. We know we are hungry but we wonder why. We see the sun in the daytime and the moon at night and we want to know how it came to be. We feel emotions and wish to find a way to channel them. The same should be true with anger. Instead of swollowing our negative feeligs, find a better way to assess the situation. Before yelling at someone, think of a way to turn what was going to be said into something positive or, at the very least, constructive. Always remember that although humans are animals, we do not need to act the way other animals act. We may not be better than them, but we certainly can restrain ourselves. Only when we see ourselves for what we truly are and understand our reason for being, can we learn to forgive and understand that anger is just an emotion. Like anything else on this earth, it is physical and will not last.
