Circles or Covens, Which is best for You?

By Daphnis 2011-01-21 15:36:49
To get the definitions straight, a coven is a formal organization with a hierarchy and meet on a regular basis.

A circle, for our purposes is a loose alliance of solitary wiccans/pagans/witches who get together for esbats and sabbats but otherwise do not have any formal structure.

The coven would possibly be better organized, but that is not always so.

The circle would probably be less intrusive into one's life; but that is not always so either.

Whatever the group is called and organized, it must cast circles, call quarters, call deities, perform workings, serve cakes and ale, and someone has to do these things.

Deborah Blake has an excellent book called "Circles, Covens, and Groves" that would make a great guide for any circle, coven, or grove and is great for anyone new to the craft.
