| There is a girl in my school who thinks she's my friend. She whines and cries about every little detail of her life and I can't understand why. She has money, a boyfriend who loves her and, more importantly, she can broadcast who she is without being afraid of pitchfork and torches. And I turn and stare and wish with all the magic in my soul that I could have been that young, that free. She has no cares beyond the next fight with her boyfriend, her next bad hair day, and she has never been broken. She thinks she knows pain, but she has never been told how worthless she is, never been willing to die to stop, not her pain, but the pain that the universe must feel because of her existence. Her mother doesn't call her "The Mistake". She has never tastedtrue terror, mindless, souless, when you'rew backed into a corner, desperate to get away from a man you've never met before, and one you would not want to know if given the choice. She doesn't understand the meaning of the word pain, and I pray to the glorious Moon Mother, Selene, that she never will, because I would not wish my life on anyone. | |
