Paganism, Witchcraft and Wicca for the Ignorant 101

By NewWiccan2008 2011-04-06 00:20:04
First of all, I don't mean ignorant as in the stupid; I mean ignorant as in the non-educated. I wanted to go ahead and point that out. I'm a studying Pagan and only in my first month of my year and a day study. So, I like to bring my studies to work if I happen to have some extra time before I clock in. I get a lot of co-workers asking if what I am doing is for school. I tell them, "Sort of, but no." And they reply, "If not for school what is it for?" "Personal reasons." Some leave it at that, but others go on, asking "Personal reasons? What kind of personal reasons?" So I tell them about my studying to be a Pagan. Several confused people look at me and say, "Does that mean you worship the 'Devil'?" At this point I tell them that we Pagans do not know nor worship the so-called Christian "Devil". We believe in a polytheistic Deity known to us as the God and Goddess: Two equal, yet separate parts to one whole. We respect the Sun God for giving life to the Mother Earth Goddess for in which we live and co-habitate as a whole. At my work we are required to wear buttons that contain something about ourselves. This is so we can engage our customers in topics of conversation that they may not have otherwise thought of. The right-side up pentacle that I bear on my button is not to be confused with the upside down pentacle that Satanists use as their symbol. The pentacle (five pointed star surrounded by a circle) is a mere symbol that Pagans use to represent the five elements (the star): Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit all surrounded (the circle) by Deity itself. Again, I will say, we Pagans do not know nor do we worship any entity known as the "Devil". I, myself have nothing against Christians. As a matter of fact, I grew up in a Christian home with very strict Christian parents lighting my way. When I left home in 2008 to make my own way, I had heard about Paganism and Wicca from a friend and co-worker. I knew right then that this was the path for me. I'm sure that those I work with are only an handful of the people I will run into who are confused and uneducated. This is one of the reasons why I am not ashamed to teach those who do not know our ways, what Paganism (and all of its different ways of spiritual beliefs) truly is all about. I would like to say, however, that those of you who walk around accusing people of something but, truly not knowing anything (and only going by what you hear) are considered STUPID!!!!!
