| It starts simply: Open a book. Like Reading Rainbow says 'Take a look, it's in a book...' And things we find from published authors tend to be a good basis for where we can start with our rituals, simple or complicated. So, I open that book and suddenly, the feline of my life-- T'ger the Pointy-- would like my attention. He tells me this simply, almost like a toddler. He stands next to my chair, on his hind feet, and stretches his paw up to touch my arm. If I don't look he'll mew. He's very polite right now. Very much 'Um. Hello?' If I don't acknowledge, and attention him, that's when things get complicated. With claws. He's the Pointy One for a reason. So, I'll take the moment to say hi back. I should also note at this point: I have ADD. It's kind of bad. So. Acknowledge the kitty, forget what I'm doing, pick up a different book. Open new book. Cat suddenly on table/chair/arm of couch/head (Yes I'm serious, stop laughing. No really.). Remove cat. Grab pen and paper, open third book. At this point we are determined to succeed. We have inspiration! We will take notes and start the process! Wait. My cup's empty... So into the kitchen we go... and now the cat has won. He is on the notebook, sprawled lazily, looking smug. There is a cat butt in my way. I can remove him, only to have him come back in 5 seconds. Possibly with reinforcements in the shape of BlondBoi or Loaf. Or. I can let him have that notebook, and grab another and work anyway. Some obstacles come into our path to teach us patience. Patience with ourselves and with the small things in life. I have 5 bajillion notebooks.... and a content feline. And my ritual is written. In less time, I might add, because I let him have the notebook and 'win'. |
