Blooming Out of Season

By tangible 2009-10-18 10:09:22
Well, technically speaking its not so unusual to have "unusual" weather that provokes some plants to bloom or even bear fruit out of season. So it was this morning when I sat down with some warm Kona to listen to the early birds chirp of the night's adventures and dreams; All of the Sage bushes in our front yard were heavy with beautiful purple flowers. What makes that especially interesting to me is that one of our daughters gets her name from these same type of bushes, and lately there has been some concern about her development - specifically with speaking - since she is at an age when most children are chatter boxes using every new word at their disposal, but our "Sage-opotimus" has very few words, and rarely uses those. She is very content to simply point, whine, smile, or say "me happy" to let us know what she wants and doesn't.

Its weighed on me a bit lately, but seeing these Sage bushes in bloom reminds me that the plant doesn't command the season, the season commands the plant, and that it is subject to greater forces than simply those of commonality or assumed normality. They are blooming strong late in their season and are absolutely beautiful to see in contrast to the empty yards and shrubs in our neighborhood. So I take comfort and that subtle knowing that our Sage will bloom too, in the season that is right for her, and I suspect it will be an amazing and wonderful thing she will do with words when it comes time for her to use them.

I think we are all like that. Each of us having talents, beauty, and powers that awaken and bloom in the right season. There is no need to rush to discover them - they will come of their own accord when time and conditions are right, and by nature's design it will be perfect timing. Our Sage is hardly concerned with what others might think about her lack of verbal communication at her age. She isn't trying to impress anyone with her vocabulary. She is happily who she is, where she is at, and doesn't seem to struggle to be something more... she simply grows at her own pace and that is one of the things I love most dearly about her. It's also one of the things that makes her so unique among her siblings.

It could be a lesson for all of us I suppose, individually and collectively: To Perfectly Trust that tide and season turn true, and yours will come as surely as it does for the Sage bush, for our Communities, our Culture, and your own visions of what could be, should be, and will be - and if it seems "out of season", how much more wonderful of a surprise and amazing of an event will it be when it does come? There's no need to rush along the Path, we all arrive in our unique times, but simply cherish each step, and be as Sage would say.. "me happy" with every blossoming moment.

Blessed Be.
