(couldn't think of a title, so ... LOL.. sorry if that one offended anyone)
I can't help but wonder sometimes, exactly what some green Wiccans face in their daily lives that causes them to be inclined to hide their spiritual preferences, or drives them to conjure up scenarios that are meant to draw pity and compassion from others. You know what I mean, the "poor inquisitional witch" syndrome, and its close relative the "I want to be persecuted" complex. I do appreciate that there are a number of Wiccans, sincere in their convictions, who might face real prejudice and harassment because they chose not to hide their spiritual passions in otherwise spiritually hostile environments. Yet I am certain that those few and bold souls will quickly recognize that they are very much exempt from this present discourse.
I believe I am trying to more specifically suggest that SOME who are relatively new to Wicca (lets say just 5 or so, or less years on the Path) seem to be on the look out for opportunities to be harassed, persecuted, or worse on account of their new found Way of Life. Let me stress that I have called them 'green' and that this is a 'Way of Life'; They are "babes in the glen", just discovering their place, and they are as "predictable as the rock" with all of their self-seeming uniqueness as being more a clear hallmark for those further long down the road to recognize them, than it is them proving their "belonging" with other Wiccans. Their tendency is to try and suggest to or impress upon others that they are either a deeply evolved spiritual being who happens to be a master of arcane and magical arts, or that they are a lost deer looking for the way back to the woods. The reality tends to be that they are attention starved people of all ages and cultures who find comfort and satisfaction in milking pity and recognition for their "suffering".
Wicca is a Way of Life, and one aspect of it that separates The Craft from many other spiritual directions is that we enjoy a philosophy of comfort and harmonious coexistence. Seasoned Wiccans tend to be very comfortable with what and who they are. They are rarely found at the butt end of someone else's prejudice and ignorance because they don't often look for or draw unnecessary attention. Its not that they are hiding, not by any means, but simply that they have grown to appreciate that what they have is what is good for them and everyone is not only free to, but encouraged to find what is equally good for themselves. We say, "Live and Let Live", and strive to be in "Perfect Love and Perfect Trust": So I have nothing to say about your Path, I trust that it is what your soul needs at this time, but if you are one of the above-mentioned attention-needers, I have a few words of advice for you;
1) Seasoned Wiccans will not nurture or cultivate your cries for attention. They may encourage you to grow more, but won't help you sow the rotten fruit you seem to be after (Remember, "Harm None", not even when they seem to be asking for it.), not that they are "Holier than thou", but because that really is the most meaningful and positive thing they can do for you : They can help you grow up well.
2) If your first thought is to find a spell to help you with some issue or need, then you aren't "getting it", and should probably focus more on the time you spend in Circle honoring the Divine as it manifests through nature. Don't make every magical act an act of magic; Let nature spend some time running your rituals for you.
3) Imaginary scenarios of religious persecution do not make you seem more like a Wiccan or Witch, they make you seem too immature to possibly grasp the implications and suggestions of even our most basic and common practices. That is a shame. You see, Wiccan's tend to be like Transformers (r)... you know, "More than meets the eye". So authentically be yourself, be true to your Craft, and be honest with everyone; You would be amazed at how many August Witches and Wiccans will quickly usher you along the Way. You might even be more surprised to find out who they are.
4) Above all else, don't be in a rush to attain understanding and reason, because it comes to you like a creek - slow, steady, with many calm pools along its side. See the ol' timers there on the side just watching the water roll by? Sit for a moment and try to see the same wisdoms from their perspective. There' s no race and there simply is no such creature called, "I got their first", since you simply haven't figured out yet that you are already "there".
If your new to Wicca, regardless of your reasons for embracing the Craft of the Wise, make it a point to speak honestly, ask with sincerity, and represent yourself with dignity and real self respect, which is of course something that you should be discovering in your early days: Bide by the Wiccan Law Ye Must, In Perfect Love and in Perfect Trust; Eight Words the Wiccan Rede Fulfill; An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will. WHAT YE SEND FORTH COMES BACK TO THEE... that is to say, if you put out falsehoods and mis-perceptions, what do you honestly believe you are going to get back? If all you are after is attention, then everyone else we be simply to self-absorbed to care what your experiencing.. Try being honest to the core, sincere and obvious, and genuinely interested in what others are sharing. Try being in Perfect Love and Perfect Trust and seeing what is returned to you.
Just something to think about I suppose.
Blessed Be. |
