She was going through the general procedure with Lyle. As she is checking his pulse he begins to seize, and Candy walks in.
CANDY: Oh god, what happened now?
BETTY: Ma’am, I’m going to have to ask you to stay away while he is seizing. He arrived five minutes ago from school where he was tazered and he began to have a seizure.
CANDY: Go figure. I swear there isn’t a day that goes by that this kid doesn’t get into something.
Announcer: Lyle was in the ER before Because he was jumping over a tiny crick, and didn’t quiet stick his landing. One part of a broken tree impaled his left ribcage. He went through painful surgery and almost didn’t make it.
BETTY: You can wait in the waiting room and I’ll send for you in a little bit.
Announcer: The mother doesn’t move, but pulls her cell phone from her purse and starts calling everyone to tell of her son’s incident. BETTY stands in awe at the mother’s neglect. Suddenly the teen lies still, and BETTY rushes over to him.
F/X Flip open.
BETTY: Lyle, can you hear me? Squeeze my hand if you can.
Announcer: Lyle tries to make some noise and lightly squeezes her hand. The mom hangs up the phone F/X: Phone Shuts. and shouts across the room.]
Candy: Lyle you better hurry and wake up, I’ve got things to do and can’t be waiting around here!
Announcer: BETTY shoots a sharp glare towards the mother.
BETTY: I told you to leave five minutes ago, would you like me to call security?
F/X: Impatiently stamping her foot on the ground.
Candy: Excuse me!!? I’m pretty sure that you can’t kick me out of my son’s hospital room.
BETTY: If you are causing problems in my work environment, I have the authority to ask you to leave.
Announcer: Candy answers her obnoxiously loud ringing phone.
F/X: Annoying ring tone.
Candy: Hello? [PAUSE] Can you believe this? Lyle is in the hospital again! [PAUSE] Yeah I know! And now I’ve got to deal with this annoying BETTY who thinks she’s all that. (PAUSE) (LAUGHING OBNOXIOUSLY)
Announcer: BETTY drops Lyle’s hand and walks over to the telephone in the room.
BETTY: Um, Can I get security in room 304, please? We’ve got a crazy mother who won’t leave. I’ve asked her repeatedly, and she is being very disrupt full.
Announcer: The mother overhears the BETTY as the security guards walk through the door.
CANDY: Honestly? You’re going to have me taken out by the security guards? There won’t be any need for that. I’ve got better thing to do with my time.
Announcer: The mom storms out of the room, while yelling in to her cell phone.
F/X: Obnoxious yelling.
F/X: Doors swishing back and fourth.
Announcer: Lyle lies on the hospital bed, motionless. BETTY keeps trying to get him to talk or respond to anything. Very slowly, he begins to opens his eyes.

BETTY: Is who gone, Lyle?
LYLE: My mom.
Announcer: BETTY feels a sort of compassion for Lyle’s situation. She tries to comfort him as much as possible.
BETTY: Yes Lyle, she’s gone. She doesn’t have to come back at all if you don’t want her here.
LYLE: Okay, good.
BETTY: I’m going to have the doctor come in here and make sure everything is okay from your seizure, and then we’re going to give you some medicine so hopefully you won’t have to go through that again.
Announcer: Lyle drifts off to sleep as the doctor enters the room. He checks for Lyle’s vital signs and notices something isn’t right with his lower cerebellum. The doctor orders immediate surgery to correct the damage that has occurred during his seizure. Lyle wakes to the chaos around him.
F/X: Gentle breeze, then soft mattress landing followed by an echo.
LYLE: (frantically) What is going on?
BETTY: We have noticed you have developed a brain hemorrhage. We’re going to have to send you to surgery immediately.
LYLE: What?! How did that happen? What’s going on? Am I going to be okay?!
BETTY: On the way to the hospital, you were seizing uncontrollably and that is when you developed the brain hemorrhage. At least that’s what we think happened.
Announcer: Nurse Betty, gives Lyle some anesthetics to Knock Lyle out, Lyle gently falls back on the gurney.
F/X: Paper crinkling.
Candy: WHERE are you taking my baby?!!
Betty: Into surgery [Pause] ma’am I’m going to have to ask you to please sit in the waiting room, we will come get you when we hear the news.
F/X: Sniffles.
Candy: O,O, okay.
Announcer: The doctors start with an acute incision near the frontal lobe of his brain. Lyle was not quiet fully knocked out yet. He could feel the pain but was helpless to move. He felt everything they did and was silently screaming in agony. His body revolted against him because it wasn’t used to having this much stimulus. He was going into cardiac arrest. The doctors tried to revive him and seceded. The doctors continued on with the surgery. One of the doctors asked Betty to check the monitor for his heart pulse.
Betty: Uh Oh, this doesn’t look good!!! He is suffering from cardiac arrhythmia.(Irregular heart beat.)
Announcer: The medical staff did all they could but could not regulate his heart beat.
F/X: Fading Flat lining beeps.
Betty: Damn it!! [Pause] we lost him, we tried our hardest.
F/X: Leather glove clenched fist.
Announcer: The medical staff gathers around and figures out how to deliver the bad news of a beloved son’s death. They broke down into tears because he, he had so much in front him that he had not had the joy to experience.
Betty: I’ll be the bearer of bad news and tell her.
