You Can't Save The World

By acphoto13 2010-02-14 15:46:51
It's true...there's things I've learned since delcareing myself Wiccan and delving very deep into the craft. It's kind of like being born again...not in the Christian sense of the word, I don't think being born again means that you have "seen the light" because even though you've made a change in your life doesn't mean your life is going to be perfect. And more often then not when you choose a path there's a lot of bumbs in the road at the begining of that path. You need to learn to crawl again, then walk, then you can run with it.

All my life I've been one to want to help any way I can...not meaning I wanted to always help with the dishes but when someone was in need I always wanted to rush in like a super hero and make everything better. Part of my reasoning for getting into Wicca was so that I could add some extra good into people's lives. But just like with the physical, the magicical sense of everything is limited. Not in the same way though. I speak to all the younger Wiccans, or the ones that are frustrated and sorrowful that they cannot do more...

Life, just like nature, needs to run it's coarse. Bad things NEED to happen for someone to see the good things in their life. That's prolly one of the biggest problems I have with Christianity’s view on everything. They try to provide an answer that makes no sense, “Everything happens for a reason, God has a plan.” While I understand things DO happen for a reason that’s not the answer to everything. That provides little to no comfort for the person involved in a bad experience. In our life time we will prolly figure out a decent amount of why certain things happened that led us to the point we are at now. But “things happen for a reason” is more of a cosmic grand scheme of things. When we die I’m sure everything will be revealed to us. But personally I don’t live life right this second concerning myself 100% with the after life. I live life for right now and the future that is ahead of me that I can fore tell. It’s almost like you’re taking on too much if your main concern is the after life. That is too much for our human brains, no matter how enlightened you are, to handle. So live in the moment.

Sorry, I had to go on that little rant to give my current one a little bit more meat to it. Now back to my original point.

I’m sure all of has have at least one person (or animal) in our lives that we love more then life itself. You would do anything for this person, when they’re in pain so are you, they make you smile like no other etc etc. You care about them so much you want to help them through their problems. For Wiccans we try to help by doing blessings, healing spells, banish negativity, making talisman bags, and so on. Don’t think these things don’t work because they do. You might give someone a talisman bag as protection for when they travel and the next day they get into a car accident. Does it mean your magic didn’t work or something went wrong? No, but look at it like this…how bad was the accident? Could it have been even worse? Probably. No matter who you are, no matter how long you’ve been practicing magic or Wiccan, no matter how powerful you are, you can’t stop bad things from happening to people completely. However, you CAN cut down on the severity of them. This is where I had to learn to crawl again. A few months ago I had my closest friend, the one who I believe to be my soul mate, her aunt passed away suddenly and it devastated her family. While her aunt was in the hospital struggling for her life it seemed grim but I thought maybe if I casted a spell it might help her recover. But I learned you can’t save everyone, some things just happen and there’s nothing you can do about it. The more proper spell to have casted would have been one for the relatives and loved ones of the deceased. The aunt had an issue that only a miracle could have solved and last time I checked I’m not Jesus or even Doctor House, but even he can’t save everyone all the time. Nor could Jesus, not taking anything away from the guy but he puts a message out there that is very clean cut and nowadays people run around like blind special Olympic children on XTC. But my point is that when something bad does happen you could be there to help the bad time either not last so long or make it bearable. Just this morning I was talking to the same friend who’s aunt passed away late last year, now her best friend’s baby just passed away yesterday. She was concerned over not being able to be there enough for her friend, ironically enough that’s how I feel with her a lot of the time. My advice to her was not to worry about saying the right thing. Really, there is nothing you can say. Just being there and letting them know you love them and will be there if and when they need it no matter what is all you can do. It might not seem like it did anything now but later down the line they’ll see that you were there for them during that hard part in their life and they will see that without you things would have been even worse. They may not have been able to carry on without you.

Same with magic, you can cast a spell for someone but don’t expect it to work over night. And don’t expect it to eliminate everything that is wrong with the person. Nature must take it’s coarse and teach it’s children the lessons it needs to teach us. But casting a spell will set things in motion for things to get better. Maybe it’ll be a slow process filled with bumps along the way or maybe it’ll be one day where everything just goes right and they look around and see that everything isn’t so bad. It’s just like sitting with a friend or loved one that’s had a bad day, maybe giving them a hug. It doesn’t seem like it has done any good at the time but it sets the ball in motion for their night to get better because they know you’re there. Magic sets the ball in motion, so don’t get frustrated with yourself. Don’t beat yourselves up over the negative things that happen in life to the people you try to help because then you’re too obsessed with the notion that you can do no good that now those people are sitting on the side of the road bleeding without your help. Be ready for the curve balls, don’t worry about what you didn’t do at the time but worry about what you can do to help the situation get better as of right now. Once something is done, it’s done! There is no changing the past, you can only help the present and the future. You can’t save the world, but you can help it back up on it’s feet and dust it off when it falls down.
