A killer whale killed its trainer today at Sea World. I will not give my opinion just yet. What do you all think, do you feel bad for the trainer or for the whale?

i feel bad for the whale AND the person. i mean the whale should be in captivity anyways. it should be in the ocean where it belongs! and the trainer and their family i feel bad for too, because the trainer was just doing their job....(even if its not a good job)

I believe that anytime people intervene with the natural order of things, it doesn't bode well in the end. Sure, it's great to have little familiars who come into our lives and enrich our souls, and I when we cross paths with an injured little one it's absolutely our responsibility to help them. However, we take a wild animal, such as a whale, place them in anything less than their wild habitat and somehow expect everything to always be okay?! That's just insane. This world, this life, and the lives in it were not given to us so that we can try to possess it all. Sometimes, most of the time, it's better to sit back cherish what is wild and beautiful, keep the memory but let the wild be wild. The events as Sea World were regrettable, but also avoidable.

a) its NOT our responsibility to intervene in nature. injuries (cept when caused by man-made things like cars) are natures way of weeding out the weak; natural selection. its been around millions of years before humans ever were.

and

b) nature, animals and all the shit in it, were never given to us. ever.

end.

Ok thanks guys. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on this.

DeadWing your comment was neither entertaining, cute, nor funny. A young lady who loved these animals was killed. A young lady who had a family, who loved others and was loved. She died doing what she loved doing; tending and caring for one of her fellow creatures.
It's comments and attitudes like this that I stepped out of WiccanSpace for. And don't make a comment such as you were just joking. It's not funny.

As far as the orca goes, it was doing what is in it's nature to do. Although from what I have heard, this particular whale has had a history of such behavior and was sold to the aquarium with the understanding that it would only be used for breeding purposes.

Well said Phoenix. I started this thread but have yet to give my opinion. I feel very bad for the woman, but I feel worse for the whale. That whale was brought over from Iceland over 30 years ago. He is kept in a small tank away from all the other whales. Orca's are social animals and need to be with others of thier kind. His attitude is because he has been kept in solitary confinement for over 30 years!!! You cannot harness nature, so when you "play" with it, this is what happens. Not a single animal should be kept in captivity. Those who "particpate" in ANYTHING that helps or condones these animals to be kept captive cannot expect that things will not go wrong eventually. Look at lion tamers, and all the people who have died over the years at the (paws, claws, ect) of wild animals that have been kept captive. Dolphins have even been known to kill themselves in captivity! My mom was on many dolphin research expeditions to help save these animals. And sadly she was given many sad facts about these animals, including how many oracs are buried under the parking lots of seaworld! Yes, every time you give your money to them you are walking on dead orca's. I do not think that woman deserved to die at all, and I truly feel for her family. But even her sister came out and said, Do NOTHING to that whale. The whale is who I feel truly sorry for. He will spend the rest of his days in solitary confinement without having commited a single crime. He is just doing what comes natural to him. They do not call them KILLER whales because of thier calm and placid behavior. Ok, I am done. Sorry if I offended anyone with this, but quite frankly I do not care if I have.
