| ummm i have a ? ive been looking up how to make my own incense and im a bit lost. what does it mean when it says three parts myrrh or 1 1/2 parts frankincense? or 1 pinch saffron?? Please reply if you know what it means thanks. |

| Posted by AlmostWitch137 on 2010-05-14 23:52:29 | a "part" isnt a specific measurement. its basically a "create your own measurement" measurement. parts of things should be equal. id suggest doing it by weight. if your making a large batch? one "part" of something should be equal to another "part" of something. if you make a small batch its the same. lets say you need 1 part of frankincense, and its like 0.1 grams. that means if you need 2 1/2 parts of something else, those "parts" should also weight 0.1 grams. so 2 1/2 parts would end up being 0.25 grams.
and a "pinch" is just like what you'd do if you were making bread. you'd pinch some salt and toss it in. a pinch is a small amount compared to the size of whatever your making.
so if your making a small batch of incense, use a very very tiny "pinch" if its a large batch, use a larger "pinch" |

if you need 2 parts of something, make one part a specific amount or weight you can duplicate with the other ingredients. i.e. 1 part = 1 gram (but thats a MASSIVE batch of incense you'd have to use a very sensitive scale to work with decimals)
so if you need one part of this it would be one gram. if you need two parts of that it would be 2 grams. |
