| so, recently i've been browsing the new members pages, reading profiles, just snoopin' around, and i've noticed that a LOT of people have been putting in their profiles things like "i want to learn more" or "i dont know much, just looking for somebody to help me out" or things like that... and thats all well and good, but unless you take initiative and actively pursue your interests in subjects, your not gonna get anywhere. saying or asking things like "teach me about wicca" or "looking for a mentor" makes it really difficult for people to actually help you learn anything, because those statements are incredibly vague. some helpful things would be like asking, "i want to learn about divination" or "how do i cast a circle?" things like that. its too hard for people to just start "at the beginning" because there isnt really a set "beginning" where we all just started. we read a lot, on the internet, whatever we could find, libraries, local bookstores, anything. reading is critical! also, if your looking for a "mentor" its a good idea to be specific, what your looking for in a mentor, and what your looking to learn about. its better if you post something like "looking for a mentor with a background in the celtic branch of wicca," or "looking for a mentor to help me with deities" or better yet, post specific questions on the message board, instead of just advertising yourself as a student in the making. SPECIFICS PEOPLE! there are more than enough people on here willing to help you out, but you've gotta help US, help YOU! |

| Good points I would also add there are a number of teen age members that realy may not know what to ask or have any idea this is not what they see on TV. |

| I totally understand why the other posts are on here. I was one of those mindless pre-teens watching Charmed and being fascinated. HOWEVER! The only reason I am the way I am is by research and reading. I didn't know the right questions, so I asked simple ones, but I showed that my interest was true, adn I got closer to specifics. Almost here is going on about these people who aren't doing that. They're remaining completely static throughout the whole situation. That will get them nowhere fast. |
