Festivals?
Posted by Lunarsage on 2010-07-15 20:23:55
It has recently come to my attention that there is a gaping hole in my Wiccan education.

Simply put, I have no clue about festivals & holidays.
I mean, I've heard of Samhain, but I have abolutely no idea when it is, what it is, etc. I know there's a bunch of other festivals that I don't know about either.

Does anyone know maybe a website or book that I can read up on them?

Thanks! Blessed be :^)

There are eight "festivals" each year, called Sabbats, four 'greater' and four 'lesser'. They make the wheel of the year which, for some reason, starts on Samhain. (Or so I've been told)

The sabbats are:
Samhain (greater): Oct 31
Winter Solstice (lesser): Dec 19 - 21 (when the sun enters Capricorn)
Imbolc (greater): Feb 2
Spring Equinox (lesser) March 19-23 (when the sun enters Aries)
Beltane (greater): May 1
Summer Solstice (lesser): June 19-23 (when the sun enters Cancer
Lammas (greater): Aug 1
Fall Equinox (lesser): Sept 19-23 (when the sun enters Libra)

Just Google "Sabbats" and you should get something useful.
