Wicca: religion, or spirituality? |

Both, but most of the people here don't grasp that concept.
So much that it is forcing me to leave. I can't stand ignorance when it's showboated as originality. Yes, there are different variations of Pagan/Wiccan traditions, but it doesn't mean you mix every religion on the planet.
Seriously? Atheist Wiccans? That's like an Atheist Christian. Doesn't make a lick of since.
I liked a lot of you, but more of the people here need to grow up before they can experience true results. |

| I am finding many on here do need to grow up as well. I have been here for one day, and I have met two really good sources of information. I think I may leave and go to another site where people are more mature. I will listen to my new friends and hang out a while, but a few of you need to grow up. I am not judging anyone, but a few replies on here are very negitive. I thought wicca focused on positive feelings, not bad ones.. |

Hey Almost.
I have some points for- (This is all opinion)
religion and spirituality are the same thing. You find religion by finding a spiritual connection with your personal beliefs. I find that all beliefs are different, which is why I STILL think you can follow whatever path of belief you choose and still call yourself wiccan/pagan.
When you talk about spirituality, you are also speaking of faith. When looked at from the outside, all religions aren't really that different when talking about belief. All religions take what they worship and learn on faith alone. They have faith that it exists, and so it makes it real.

| really almostwitch whats with the swearing all the time come on i have seen your page and your pic to me you look like you can use a bigger vocab. onto the question is wicca a religion or spirituality. so to me spirituality is something you live because the base word is spirit. religion is something that has rules and guidelines whats excepted and whats not excepted. in religion you practice your spirituality so i think that they are one in the same whether or not you are a wiccan or a christian or a Buddhist. |

I believe that it is indeed both. As a comment to the first replier, people aren't mixing religions when they say they are Athiest Wiccans. They are simply saying that they are Wiccan, but believe the one thing that comes to mind when you think of Athiesm: No God. They are simply saying that they are Wiccans who don't believe in a God.
Now back to the real topic. I believe it is a religion because it is a belief of some sort of afterlife, worshiping, divine essence, and more. It is also spirituality because you have to be one with your spirit to really capture the essence of this religion. Now I know I have only been a Wiccan for a short while, but this is how I perceive the Wiccan religion and both of those terms. I am not saying I am right, just what I believe to be true. |

Druidry is a discipline. The beliefs of Druidry look upon nature as being a spiritual energy. Some groves (aka circle or coven) believe in polytheism, other groves believe in the unseen forces without a belief in deity.
Now, as I understand it, I am being told that I MUST be a polytheist if I call myself a Druid. Does not matter that I have 35 years of formal training in Druidry, nor does it matter that I am a bit more knowledgeable than your standard High Priest.
Apparently my knowledge of the craft, my background and my familiarity of my own belief systems is not a part of this equation.
Why are these facts important? Because Druidry is considered to be both Wiccan and Pagan. Yet I am being told that I am not permitted to label myself as a Wiccan - because someone has apparently written in stone tablets that Wiccans cannot be atheists.
In essence, I am being asked to believe that someone/anyone is the "sole authority" on what is right for me to believe and what label I am permitted to use. |
