Wanting to learn

I live in the West Des Moines, Iowa area. I have been interested in learning more about Wiccan history and how it applies in today's world. If anyone would be willing to share information with me I would greatly appreciate it.
Are there "Warlocks" and "Witches" or is it all under one category of Wiccan? Is this a religion or is it a belief system?
Being a gay male, I am open to many different types of people and am so tired of all of the intolerance in the world. I would appreciate anyone willing to take the time to help ,me learn more about this area.
Respectfully,

One of the most famous writers on teh craft was Scott Cunningham, who passed away in 1993. He too was gay and it was a sad passing. He died from AIDS. He still writes books however, posthumously.
Wicca is a religion yes, but also a way of life. Those who study the craft from the right resources learn both the religion and way of life.
Fact: there is NO devil in the craft.
I'd be careful what info you take from people at this site as many are rather messed up and truly have no clue about the craft.
"Living Wicca" is the first book I ever read on the craft, it's by Scott Cunningham. Most Llewellyn books are good for learning about the craft.
Anyhow I can direct you to many good sites, including religioustolerance.org/wicca
Feel free to message me if you want!

You can be a witch and not be Wiccan. Witchcraft has been around for a LONG time.
Many people have figured that the modern day practices of Wicca aren't really all that old. While something akin to paganism may have been practiced for centuries, modernly practiced Wicca is about 50 or so years old.
Gardner was the man who brought Wicca back into mainsteam society and back into sight. Some people may disagree, but this is a common belief among most.
Some people here believe you can't call yourself Wiccan unless you follow every wiccan tradtion and belief to the letter every day. I think this is more a personal decision. Only you know what you truly believe, not a religion set up by someone else with already made rules.
Follow what you believe, and don't let anyone tell you you're wrong for believing it. The path in this lfe is one you follow alone, don't let people pave it for you. |

Go to the 'Beliefs' section and you'll see justhow diverse Wiccan's can be. From believing in the god and the goddess, to believing in more tan just those two, Wiccans have many different views and beliefs.
Remember, just because you don't believe in one of them, doesn't mean it's wrong. It's just different. |
