There's a full moon on the Winter Solstice?
Posted by Anna128 on 2010-12-13 19:00:36
I live in New Hampshire and this year there's a full moon on the Winter Solstice. Is there always a full moon on the Winter Solstice or is this happening just by luck? I haven't studied the Wiccan Sabbats or Esbats much so I'm not entirely sure. Thanks if you can help out! I'm just curious.

This is not a normal occurance. In fact it is pretty rare. According to NASA:

NASA reports that this is the first time an eclipse has coincided with a solstice since December 21, 1638, and the next one won't come around again until 2094. The extravaganza in the sky doesn't end there, however, as the Ursids meteor shower will also be taking place.

That is 372 years since the last one!!
