There are three major categories of Witchcraft traditions.
Classical Witchcraft
Early Nordic which included the Germanic languages, Dutch, Icelandic, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish peoples.
Gothic Witchcraft
Celtic, Anglo-Saxon which includes Druid, Irish, Scottish, and English, as well as, many of the French, and Italian cultures.
Neo-Pagan Witchcraft
Modern sects which have primarily been influenced by the melding of all previous traditions through evolution and expansion of those historical denominations.
Or you can just set it up in a way that feels right to you.
For myself, I tend to use items that represent the 4 basic elements or if I just want to set up a Learning Altar, I only put out my Soap-stone oil burner.
Generally, for a Ritual, I'll put out 3 candles in the middle back (For Goddess, God, and the Divine combined), a Pentacle (even if just drawn on paper), a small tea voltive(for Fire), a mug or goblet if I have one for Water, and my Wand. That's it.
Other Witches and Wiccans I personally know, will set up small statues to represent either the season or the God & Goddess.
It all depends totally on what you want to do.
