Pain after doing a ritual

Merry Meet all! I have just done my first circle and after I know I need to work on grounding myself better as to how elated and full of energy I still felt, but not long after I began to have a sudden pain in my lower outside left ankle around the bone. Is it common to have even pain when you haven't grounded yourself well? I tend to spark alot of energy when I get excited so I wasn't sure if this was also a result of that, lol. Thanks for any help on this.

As funny as this sounds, it might just be the way you were sitting on the floor! I remember the first time I did a circle and sat in front of the altar my leg fell asleep because I wasn't used to doing that. haha Try not to worry yourself about it. Ice may help. If you're still hurty in a day, see a nurse.
Having said that, yes, it is important to learn to ground. If you read Starhawk's book Spiral Dance, there is a good section on grounding in that. Another suggestion is to have a little something to eat and drink after your circle. You need to replenish your body's physical energy too. :)
Blessed be! |

Thank you very much for the reply. That is funny you mention that, after writing the message I got to thinking that I may have actually sat wrong, lol. THis is gonna take some getting used to lol, I guess especially when your bones feel so old as mine seem to lol. THanks again and Blessed Be!

You're welcome! haha it happens to everyone. You might try getting one of those meditation pillows they sell at the yoga stores; they look like a little mushroom top. It's called a Zafu. Also, there are meditation pads called Zabuton. It's helpful for sitting on the floor and doing a circle or some kind of in-circle guided meditation. I think you can find them at a web site called dharmacrafts.com.
Keep doing those circles! You will find that you really grow as a person, and get through life-lessons more easily when you do circle-work regularly. I find the most effective circles are when I am simply thankful, the gods always seem to appreciate that. It's amazing what insight can come to you when you're doing that as well. |

Some people, like me, use a "Cakes and Ale" blessing after the circle workings to help ground. Also too, you can hug a tree and visualize your energy running out of your hands into the tree, down into the ground through the tree's roots and then back up into your feet and keep the cycle going until you balance out the energy in you.
We Wiccans are just natural born tree huggers.
When I do a circle, I rarely sit. Dancing and chanting and drumming builds a cone of energy very efficiently. You can build a cone of energy while sitting but not as efficient.
Some sitting methods I use are cord magick and reciting the "Witches Rune" nine times before casting the spell with a final "As I will so Shall it be done, with harm to none, SO MOTE IT BE!"
I get a bad crick in my shoulders and neck from excess energy built up. I try to shield but it is difficult to keep shielding and get anything done.

Thank you very much, that's a really good idea and that may help me with grounding alot. That was my first circle and I am def gonna have to make up a good CD with some music that would go well with moving around more for some rituals. Thanks so much to you both for the really good advice. *btw since I posted earlier I have noticed that there's actually a bruise lol but either way I am sure it will go away be fine. Def gonna ck into those pillows too. Anyone know any good places to find some good ritual music? I so far have found some music I thought was good for meditation on Pandora under the New Age genre music. Thanks again so much and Blessed Be to all. :)

| My sister likes Loreena McKennitt. One of my favorite albums is Green Desert by Tangerine Dream. I also like Omar Faruk Tekbilek. |

I have seen girls belly dance to this song:

There is a pretty good album called Sahara Lounge, (on the Putumayo records label.) The very first song is called "Shiraz." I have seen people belly dance to that as well and it was pretty damn fantastic. :)

| I have pain all the time because I use my magic all the time and some of the time I don't mean to. And this is just me, but I prefer a Dome shape for my shields, and yes near a tree (the older the better as they usually are stronger), but as you get used to doing rituals and find the proper way for you to sit they will go away. But the Power I use/get used by is Wild, harder to control, harder to find, and harder find places to work it, as people destroy Forests. |
