I want to become wiccan, but I don't know where to start.

I've been interested in becoming a Wiccan since I was in middle school, and first heard about it. The desire waned for me as I focused more on my schoolwork, but after coming across the subject again, and doing some research, I decided that becoming a wiccan seems like the right thing to do. I would like some help getting started, as I couldn' find much information on the internet...

I started by going into a metaphysical book store. Some books are available at the major book stores also. Read a couple of books and you will be well on your way.

I agree with hazelsnake...books are key in deciding the path which u wish to take-traditional or modern or amix of both- as well as learning the basics about wicca and its history as well as for examples of spells and rituals to get you started, and if u are fortunate enough to get you hands on some druidic texts or early british wiccan texts some of these spells rites and rituals are more powerful as they are closer to the roots of our beliefs and less tainted by modern attitudes of materialism apethy dependence on technology and selfishness. I also recommend however that you talk to fellow wiccans and druids who have slight variances in some of their more minor beliefs and preferences, so that you can form a well educated opinion and weed through some of the B.S. that people say and get to the real truth of the matter. also having a teacher-should you so desire- is a good idea as well if you can find one. however do not let yourself get into the mindset of so-and-so wrote in their book/taught me that it had to be done this way or it means this and only this because they said so. part of wicca is having a personal connection to every part of it, your tools and how they look and what they are made of, your altar and what it is made of and how it looks and is decorated, your way of dressing, etc....it is all supposed to be comfortable and personally satisfying and bring YOU PERSONALLY closer to the dieties that be. Covens may be a good idea if you can find others that believe enough like you do that you are compatible, but if not there is nothing wrong with being a solitary practitioner. Stay true to what you believe and do not deviate! do not shun others for what they believe, because there is more than one path to connect with the god and goddess, but if you are to make a personal connection with the goddess and god yourself you have to make it personal to you right?...so stick with that! Good luck and Blessed Be )O( if you have anymore questions just let me know, if i have the answer i will be more that honored to oblige you, however if i cannot then hazelsnake normally has some educated answers and has actually answered a few of my questions very well. if neither of us have the answer then we can probably find someone who does... Add me if you want.

Scott Cunningham's books were great when I first got start; first 2 books I ever bought on the subject. They offer a broad overview of whats common for most Wiccans/Pagans/Witches. Instead of diving into a certain type (alexandrian, Seau-Wicca, etc.) This lets you learn how to be solitary if you choose which is most common when you get started. I bought most of my books on Amazon.com to save money and paid around 2 dollars a piece (plus s&h). Libraries sometimes have these books too. Try that and keep searching internet loads of info. Plus witchvox.com has local wiccans in your city/state most likely. Good Luck
