| Person #1: (Call the Quarters) Everything is sacred. All space is sacred. I invite the Guardians to guide us in this rite. (at East): I call upon the East. Breath of Life and powers of Air. Be with us now. (at South): I call upon the South. Passion and Creativity and powers of Fire. Be with us now. (at West): I call upon the West. Knowledge and emotion and powers of Water. Be with us now. (at North): I call upon the North. Stability and growth and powers of Earth. Be with us now. (at Center): I call upon the Spirit. That which is at the center of all, binds us together and gives us life. Be with us now. Person #2: (Brigid/Goddess invocation) I call upon Brigid. Maiden Goddess of Spring. Keeper of the Flame. Spark of inspiration. Lady of Healing. Be with us now. Person #3: (Green Man/God invocation) I call upon the Green Man. God of Spring. Giver of life. Herald of buds and blossoms. Lord of creatures. Be with us now. Person #4: (purpose) We have gathered here to celebrate the time of rebirth. As the Sun’s strength returns and the Earth warms, the Green Man awakens from his slumber and the Maiden Brigid brings forth her blessings. Trees and flowers begin to bud. All creatures ready for the first births of the year as the newborn young quicken from the womb. Person #5: (Brigid) I am Brigid. Maiden Goddess of the Spring. Three gifts I bestow upon you. (at first small altar)Everything is transformed by fire, even stone and water. Take this metal pin as a reminder of my power to transform and that the flame of transformation lies also in you. Blessed Be. (at second small altar)Poetry is a gift, the expression of our souls, a fire fed by divine inspiration. Take this poem as a reminder of my spark of inspiration and that the spark of creation lies also in you. Blessed Be. (at third small altar)Without the warmth of the Sun, these herbs could not grow. Without the strength and courage a healer cannot heal. Without compassion we cannot help others. Take these herbs as a reminder of the healing powers of the Sun, strength, courage, and compassion and that all these lie also in you. Blessed Be. Person #4: All hail Maiden Brigid, but where is our Green Man? Without him, there is no life to spring forth. Let us awaken him so the Earth may grow and burst forth with new life. Everyone be seated. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath…exhale. (Green Man starts dressing.) Breathe in, you feel the first spring breezes, exhale…Breathe in, the snow is melting, exhale…Breathe in, the first buds appear on the trees, exhale…Just breathe. Feel roots extending from your legs and feet into the ground. Feel branches reaching up from your arms, up to the Sun. (Person #3 opens curtains.) Feel the Green Man within you. His life waters flow into your roots. Flowing up…up…up into your branches as they reach up…up…up and draw in the energy of the Sun. (Green Man starts helping people stand up) Feel yourself grow. Rising up. Growing into the great oak or a blossoming flower. Feel the Sun’s rays shine down on you. Now feel your branches pull back into your body. Still apart of you but becoming human again. Your arms return. Breathe in, feel the energy of the Earth, exhale…Breathe in, feel the energy of the Sun, exhale…Breathe in…open your eyes and welcome the Green Man. All Hail the Green Man, herald of the Spring. Person #3: Long have I slumbered. Waiting out the cold. But now the time has come to bring life back to the Earth. I give to each of you, the gift of life. (hands out seed packets) Tend to these with great care and love. Help them grow and be reminded of all the potential for growth that lies also in you. Blessed Be. Person #2: We are also here to raise energy for the Earth. To help Her heal and become green again. From the Earth we are given life and healing, now is the time to give some back. We will build the energy and release it into the water. (place bowl of water in center) Focus all your energy into this water, which we will give to the Earth. Give it life, love, and healing. (All join hands and chant) ♪ Born of water, cleansing, powerful. Healing, changing, we. (repeat 1x) Power of bud and seed awake. Power to mend and power to make. Power to bring our dreams to birth. Power to heal the living Earth. ♫ Person #5: We thank you Brigid. Goddess of Spring. Keeper of the Flame. Divine Spark. Healer. Hail and Farewell. Person #3: We thank you Green Man. God of Spring. Giver of Life. Herald of greening. Lord of creatures. Hail and Farewell. Person #1: We thank you Guardians for watching over us in this rite. Guardians of the North. Guardians of the West. Guardians of the South. And Guardians of the East. Hail and Farewell. ALL: May the circle be open but not broken. May the love of the God and Goddess be ever in our hearts. Merry Meet and merry part. And merry meet again. So mote it be. |
